Lt. Shri Veer Bahadur Singh Ji

urvanchal University, Jaunpur renamed as Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in the honour of late Shri Veer Bahadur Singh, former Chief Minister of the state, was established on 2nd October 1987 as an affiliating university under U.P. state university act 1973. Continuous qualitative and quantitative growth, excellence in academic and administrative activities, transparent and efficient academic administration have been some of the distinct characteristics on the basis of which the university emerged as one among the leading universities. Started with the 68 affiliated colleges, the university now has widened it’s spectrum of activities with 367 affiliated graduate and post-graduate colleges and students enrollment of nearly three lacs and eighty thousand in 5 Districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh

The university is located at 10 km from the historic city of Jaunpur on Jaunpur-Shahganj road which divides it’s 171.5 acres campus into two. Jaunpur is well connected by Train, Road and Air with rest of the country.The infrastructure development, achievement of academic excellence, quality assurance in the higher education and socio-economic development of this highly backward & rural region of Eastern Uttar Pradesh are some of the priority areas for which the university is putting its best efforts. The beginning of two-year full-time residential MBA course in 1990 was one of the first steps towards making change in the character of the university from affiliating to affiliating cum-residential university.

Gandhi Vatika

The dearth of technical and professional educational facilities and growing demand for need based courses in the region have been the guiding factors that have led the university on the path of continuous academic growth with the beginning of 16 more residential courses in the various streams including Engineering & Technology (B.Tech.), Modern and Applied Sciences (MBT), Management ( Finance & Control, HRD), Business Economics, Pharmacy (B.Pharmacy) and Applied Social Sciences(MAP, Mass communication) in mere 15 years since it’s inception..

Central Library

Established in 1999, Central Library is one of the largest repositories of information in Uttar Pradesh to provide quality services to its students, research scholars, teachers and staffs. It shifted at newly three storied impressive modern library building with the name of Vivekanand Central Library in the year 2004 which was inaugurated by Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, the then Vice-President of India. In 2016, the Central Library has been awarded as a “Centre of Excellence” by Govt. of Uttar Pradesh.The Library premises are under CCTV surveillance to control unethical incidents. Library has Wi Fi connectivity to provide Internet as well as eResource facilities to its users even after closing the library.

Now the Library is working with SOUL software package for its in-house job like circulation, serial control, cataloguing, OPAC/Web OPAC etc.

The present Library stock comprises 1,12,006 books, 318 professional Indian and foreign journals and magazines, 557 back volumes of journals, 10211 Ph.D. theses, 760 CD, 12 Newspapers, 216 Govt. publications, press clippings since 2008. Library has a reach collection of reference books like, encyclopedia, dictionary, yearbook, atlas, directory, almanacs etc.

It has a Digital LibrarycumResearch Section to support the research scholars on all subjects those are not being studied in UTD. Since 2014, we have uploaded 519 Ph.D. thesesin Sodhganga Repository and going to digitize our 12,000+ old theses.

It has also an e-library containing 20 computers with 1 GBPS BSNL leased line Internet connectivity to access 10,000+ e-resources including e-journals, e-books, e-databases, e-contents, e-theses purchased and subscribed by university along with INFLIBNET Centre, Ahmadabad with many more Open Access e-resources.

Library has also an EDUSAT system in audio-visual section to attend the virtual teaching programmes telecast by UGC, AICTE, and IGNOU etc.

It has also Book Bank section to provide the complete set of text books for every students for all semesters.

Computer Centre

Computer Centre established in the year 2008. It renamed in 2016 as Sri Hari Murti Singh Computer Centre. It has a well-furnished air conditioned computer lab exists in Pharmacy Building at Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, JAUNPUR. The computer Centre provides quality service to the university community in computing facilities, E-mail, etc. The lab equips with the following software and hardware like windows operating system , SPSS, Ms-office etc. It helps researchers to get their research data, analyzed, extends internet facilities in the universities to the student of Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Pharmacy, Science and Technology. It organizes short term training programs for teaching and non-teaching staff of the university. It also executes the B.Ed. Counselling and evaluation of University Examination.
