Overview
Established in 1997, Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the metropolis of Chennai (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), Tamil Nadu. Officially accredited/recognized by the University Grants Commission, India, Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) is a medium-sized (enrollment range: 7,000-7,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study. TNDALU also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, online courses and distance learning opportunities, as well as administrative services.
Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University is a public state university established in 1997 at Chennai, India by the Government of Tamil Nadu under the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University Act, 1996, which also brought all law colleges in Tamil Nadu under the control of the university. It was named after Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, an Indian jurist and member of the committee which drafted the Constitution of India. The university was inaugurated on 20 September 1997 by K. R. Narayanan, former President of India. The university started a law school on its own campus in 2002 as the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai (SOEL).
Academics
At the Undergraduate level, SOEL has five-years integrated B.A.,LL.B.,(Hon’s), B.Com.,LL.B., (Hon’s), B.B.A.,LL.B.,(Hon’s), B.C.A.,LL.B.,(Hon’s) and three-years LL.B (Hons) degree courses. The Postgraduate Department provides LL.M Master’s degrees across nine different branches.
Campus
Chief minister J Jayalalithaa in February 2016 unveiled a state-of-the-art campus for the TN Dr Ambedkar Law University at Perungudi next to Taramani MRTS station. The new campus has separate blocks for administration and classes, besides a library at a cost of 59.27 crore. The CM opened the facility through video conferencing from her chamber at the Secretariat. The campus also has hostel facilities for girls and a play ground with gallery.

Intake and Reservation:
The number of students to be admitted in each branch of the LL.M. Degree Course is limited to 20. For each of the branches, the reservation will be based on the State Reservation Policy.
Eligibility:
The general eligibility condition for admission to Master‟s Programme is through formal education as per the UGC Regulations 2001.
Candidates who have successfully completed a three year / five year under-graduate degree course in Law conducted by the University or equivalent thereto shall be eligible for admission to a Masters Degree programme in any of the LL.M. courses. Candidate should have obtained a minimum of 45% of marks under New Regulations [40% under Old Regulations]. Candidates who are awaiting results may also apply.
Course Structure & Duration:
LL.M. Degree Course is offered at the University under CBCS pattern and is of two years duration. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters (odd semester from July to November and even semester from December to April). Each semester consists of 90 working days. A semester normally extends over a period of 15 weeks, each week has 30 hours of instruction spread over a 5 day week. The semester pattern is designed with continuous assessment system.

MODE OF PAYMENT OF APPLICATION PROCESSING FEE:
- The candidates shall remit the prescribed application processing fee in any branch of Indian Bank through remittance challan which may be downloaded from the University website or obtained from any one of the affiliated Government Law Colleges.
- Department of Constitutional Law and Human Rights
Branch II: Constitutional Law & Human Rights - The candidates may obtain the application form (in person) on submission of the remittance challan from the University premises only.
- Candidates who intend to receive the application through POST should send a requisition letter along with a remittance challan.
- Application processing fee paid through Cash/Demand Draft/Money Order/Cheque/Bank Pay Order etc., will not be accepted.

Placement Cell
The School of Excellence in Law (SOEL) was established in the year 2002. It offers five year integrated law degree course Viz. B. A. B. L. (Hons). It was primarily intended to provide quality legal education on parwith the National Law Schools in the country. The course stress is laid more on how to make the law students professionally competent. The database of the IV and V year students of SOEL in readily available.
In order to make a niche in legal education, The Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University has established a student – industry interface Centre (SIIC) for opening more avenues in the legal sphere. We already do have the credit of reputed banks and leading law firms in our database. Our first batch of Post Graduate students specialised in Business Law has been recruitment by banks through Campus interview last year.
As part of internship programme, our students are given inputs to the needs of the Industry. Lot of students in the 6th and 7th Semester have been absorbed by various law firms and few serving to the Hon’ble High Court Judges, Chennai. At this juncture, we look forward in creating better avenues apart from professional practices, joining hands with Corporate, IT mayos, MNC’s. It is our proud privilege to announce that our placement Cell awaits formal inauguration.
5 YEAR B.A.LL.B.[HONS.] DEGREE COURSE
Course Structure:
B.A.LL.B.[Hons.] Degree course is of five years duration. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester consists of 90 working days. B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) Degree will be awarded on successful completion of the course. No split degree will be issued during the pursuance or on exit in the midst of the 5 year integrated course.
Intake
The number of students to be admitted to the 5 Year B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) Degree Course shall be 180* (inclusive of NRI). All efforts will be taken to pay individual attention on every student.
NRI Quota :
Out of the total number of seats 15% has been earmarked for NRI candidates. * As per G.O.Ms.No.418 Law (LS) Department dated 30.07.2012, on the basis of merit list, 4% of the total seats have been allotted to the Higher Secondary Courses (+2) Vocational Stream Candidates.
Eligibility
A candidate should have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) OR its equivalent examination recognized by the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai and should have secured not less than 70% of the total marks in the aggregate of all the subjects.
The candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe communities should have secured not less than 60% of the total marks in the aggregate of all subjects.
In case of students who make a claim under the Non-Resident Indians (NRI) category, they should have secured not less than 60% in the qualifying examination.
Age:
A candidate should not have completed 21 years of age as on 1st June 2015, (i.e. should have been born on or after 01.06.1994). For candidates belonging to SC/ST Communities, No Age Limit.“

Course Structure:
The Tamil Nadu Dr.Ambedkar Law University introduced B.Com.LL.B. [Hons.] Degree Course in the academic year 2013-2014. The duration of the course is for five years. Each academic year is divided into 2 semesters and each semester consists of 90 working days. B.Com. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree will be awarded on successful completion of the course. No split degree will be issued during the pursuance or on exit in the midst of the 5 year integrated course.
Intake
The number of students to be admitted to the 5 Year B.Com.LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Course shall be 120 (inclusive of NRI). All efforts will be taken to pay individual attention on every student.
NRI Quota :
Out of the total number of seats, 15% has been earmarked for NRI candidates.
Eligibility
Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) with Commerce group subjects or equivalent examination with relevant subjects alone are eligible to apply. They should have secured not less than 70% of the total marks in the aggregate of all the subjects.
