Establishment

The University, named after the illustrious sage and philosopher Sree Sankaracharya, was established in the year1993 in Kalady, on the banks of the river Poorna in Kerala.

Founded in 1993, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the rural setting of the medium-sized town of Kalady (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Kerala. Officially accredited/recognized by the University Grants Commission, India, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) is a coeducational higher education institution. Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. SSUS also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.

The University, named after the illustrious sage and philosopher Sree Sankaracharya, was established in the year1993 in Kalady, on the banks of the river Poorna in Kerala. The primary objective of the University is to impart knowledge in various branches of Sanskrit as well as Indology, Indian Culture, Indian Languages, Indian Philosophy, Fine Arts, Foreign Languages and Social Science and to promote the study and research of Sanskrit through simultaneous promotion of other languages in India and abroad that have enriched the study of Sanskrit. The University also works towards the Publication and preservation of manuscripts and books in Sanskrit and other languages. The University is currently functioning through eight Regional Centres, namely Thiruvananthapuram, Panmana, Thuravoor, Ettumanoor, Thrissur, Tirur, Koyilandy and Payyannur.

Admission Process

The admission to postgraduate and research programmes is on the basis of common admission test conducted in the month of May every year. The students who have graduated from any discipline are eligible to appear for the admission test, except in music and dance. The admission is strictly on the basis of the performance in the test. The admission to undergraduate courses is made on the basis of the performance in the qualifying examinations.

Health Clinic

Career Guidance and Counseling Cell

The Career Guidance and Counseling Cell was established in September 2012, funded by University Grants Commission of India. Its objective is to equip the students for better career management. Services of the cell includes guidance, counseling, training programmes, and recruitment drives. It is headed by Dr. Jose Antony (director), who is also the head of Department of Social Work. There is a full-time counselor providing guidance and counseling services as well as coordinating the functions of the cell. Mr. Arun Menachery, who is one of the best career experts in the state of Kerala, served as the first counselor of the cell and Ms. Jasmine George, who is an expert in couseling and gudiance, is the current counselor.

Equal Opportunity Cell

This cell functions with the Career Guidance and Counseling Cell. It was established for the development of minority students enrolled in the university.

Employment and Guidance Bureau

Alumni

The University has a registered Alumni Association in the University which boosts the development of the university in terms of activities and contributions. The University has also got departmental alumni association and Regional Centre based alumni associations. All these alumni associations have got elected office bearers and specific activities. They conduct annual get together, and also sometimes conduct annual lectures. They have constituted some endowments for the students of the University departments. They have also contributed a lot in making the goodwill of the University established and promoted. Alumni association in the Social Work department has contributed a lot in giving on-the-job training programs to the students and also provides special care and support in making their junior students getting good placements after the educational programme. The Association Published a Research Refereed Journal ‘The Philosopher’ from Tirur Campus. This Journal is conceived of as a platform for sharing the common experience of and information relating to education, research and training needs and for redefining the priorities in the new development studies in humanities and languages as well as for fostering interdisciplinary research and training in these fields.
