Overview
Established in 1970, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the metropolis of New Delhi (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), NCT of Delhi. Officially accredited/recognized by the University Grants Commission, India, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan University is a coeducational higher education institution. Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan University also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, online courses and distance learning opportunities, as well as administrative services.
About Us
The Sansthan was established in 15th October, 1970 as an autonomous organisation registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Act XXI of 1860) for the development and promotion of Sanskrit all over the country. It is fully funded by Government of India. It functions as an apex body for propagation and development of Sanskrit and assists the Ministry of Human Resource Development in formulating and implementing various plans and schemes for the development of Sanskrit studies. It has assumed the role of a nodal body for the effective implementation of various recommendations made by the Sanskrit Commission set up by the Government of India, Ministry of Education in 1956 to consider the propagation and development of Sanskrit language and education in all its aspects.
Sanskrit has played a vital role in the development of all Indian languages and in the preservation of the cultural heritage of India. No Indian language can flourish without the help of Sanskrit. Sanskrit also provides the theoretical foundation of ancient sciences. Hence, it becomes essential to preserve and propagate Sanskrit for all-round development of India. Fully conscious of this responsibility, the Govt. of India, in pursuance of the recommendations of the Sanskrit Commission (1956-57) constituted a Central Sanskrit Board, which recommended the establishment of a Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan. Accordingly, the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan was established in October 1970 as an autonomous organisation registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 for the development, preservation and promotion of Sanskrit learning all over the country and abroad. The Sansthan is fully financed by the Government of India and works as a vital agency of the Central Government.
Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan has now been declared as Deemed University on the recommendation of Universtiy Grants Commission by the Ministry of Human Resource Development , Department of Higher & Secondary Education, Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi vide their notification No. 9-28/2000-U.3 dated 7th May, 2002 . The University Grants Commission has also notified the above declaration vide their notification No.
F.6-31/2001 (CP-I) dated 13.6.2002. , F.9-28/2000-U.3 dated 1.1.2009. , F.9-28/2000-U.3 dated 30.06.2009.
As per the Memorandum of Association, the major objectives of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan are to propagate, develop and encourage Sanskrit learning and research. This also serves as central, administrative and coordinating machinery for the management of all Campuses. The Government of India has formulated various schemes and programmes for the development of Sanskrit education and is implementing these through Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan and other agencies.
For fulfillment of its objectives and execution of the schemes/programmes of the Government, the Sansthan undertakes the following activities :
Establishment of Campuses in different states.
Conducting the teaching of Sanskrit on traditional lines at secondary,
Under-Graduate, Graduate, Post-Graduate and Doctorate level.
Imparting Sanskrit teacher’s training at Graduate,Post-Graduate level i.e. B.Ed.,M.Ed.
Coordination of research works in various disciplines of Sanskrit learning.
Implementation of the schemes of the Ministry of Human Resource Development for promotion of
Sanskrit.
Establishing Sanskrit libraries, manuscripts collection centers and editing
as well as publishing the rare manuscripts and books of importance.
Running Correspondence Courses for learning Sanskrit.
The Sansthan has entered into its new building on the auspicious occasion of the Sanskrit Day on 28th August 1996. This building is equipped with more facilities like Library, Computer Centre, Modern Conference Room, Committee Room, Guest Room, Sales counter, Canteen etc. With the added facilities and support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the Sansthan expects to serve the cause of Sanskrit during the coming years in a more effective way by bringing out the wealth of knowledge contained in Sanskrit Literature for the welfare of human beings and coordinating the Sanskrit studies and researches being undertaken by various institutions in the different parts of the world.
Prof. Ram Karan Sharma was the founder Director of the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan. Prof. V Kutumba Shastry, Dr. Anita Bhatnagar Jain, Prof. Radha Vallabh Tripathi, Prof. A.P Sachidanand, Dr. N. R. Kannan, Sh. R.P. Sisodia, Sh. S.P. Goyal, Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu had adorned the office of Vice Chancellor after declaration of the Sansthan as Deemed to be University. At Present Prof. P.N. Shastry is the Vice Chancellor of the Sansthan W.e.f. 29-04-2015. The other Directors of the Sansthan were Shri. P.C. Sharma, Shri S.K. Chaturvedi, Shri K.K. Sethi, Shri K.K. Khuller, Dr. Mandan Mishra, Shri Priyadarshi Thakur, Dr. K.K. Mishra, Prof. Vachaspati Upadhyaya & Prof. V.Kutumba Sastry.

(Prathama to Prak-Shastri) Courses
A student who has passed class V and completed the age of 10 years as on first October in the year of admission may be admitted to Prathama Ist year. After three years of study in Prathama, he may be admitted to Purva Madhyama (IX & X). After a further study for two years, he may be admitted to Uttar madhyama (XI & XII). This may complete his school education, as in modern system.
This Sansthan has also introduced a buffer course, called Prak-Shastri , in which a student, who has passed class X of a Board Examination and has no previous background of Sanskrit, may be admitted. This also is a two year course (XI & XII), but there is a greater emphasis on Sanskrit.
Minimum Qualification For Admission To Prak-Shastri Course
Secondary examination (Class 10th of 10+2 system) of a recognised Education Board subject to passing the oral entrance test in Sanskrit.

CONDITIONS REGARDING OFFERING OF SUBJECT AT ACHARYA LEVEL :
Normally,a student shall be allowed to offer the same subjects, which he was having at Shastri level but in special cases, the Principal may permit to take a subject (other than Siddhant Jyotish) not taken at Shastri level.
Candidates who have passed B.A. with Sanskrit or Vedalankar / Vakyalankar may be allowed to take Sahitya or Dharma Shastra or Sankhya Yoga or Phalit Jyotish or Karma Kanda at Acharya level. B.A. (Sanskrit) with Philosophy may take Advait Vedanta.
Candidates having passed B.A. (Hons.) in Sanskrit may be allowed to take Veda or Vyakarana or Sahitya or Dharma Shastra or Sankhya Yoga or Phalit Jyotish or karma kanda at Acharya level.
Candidates who have passed Acharya in one subject or have done M.A. in Sanskrit will be allowed to offer any subject at Acharya level other than Siddhanta Jyotish, Veda, Navya Nyaya, Navya Vyakaran and Mimamsa. However, an Acharya in Phalit Jyotish, Navya Nyaya, Navya Vyakaran may be admitted in Siddhanta Jyotish, Prachin Nyaya and Vyakaran and vice –versa.
B.A./B. Sc. with Sanskrit having Astronomy as one of the subjects, will be allowed to take Siddhanta Jyotish at Acharya level
Shiksha-Acharya
Presently the facilities for the study of Shiksha-Acharya course are available at jaipur campus of the Sansthan only. There are only 25 seats available for this course. Admission to this course will be strictly on the basis of the merit list of selected candidates in Pre-Sksha Acharya test.

Shiksha-Shastri/B.Ed with Sanskrit as teaching Subject.55% in aggregate and in practical and theory min 50% in each part.5% concession for SC/ST.
