Founded in 2007, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shekhawati University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the large town of Sikar (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Rajasthan. Officially accredited/recognized by the University Grants Commission, India, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shekhawati University is a coeducational higher education institution. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shekhawati University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shekhawati University also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including as well as administrative services.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Shekhawati University (Hindi: पंडित दीनदयाल उपाध्याय शेखावाटी विश्वविद्यालय) formerly known as Shekhawati University is a newly established public state university situated in the village Katrathal of the Sikar district of the Indian state Rajasthan. The sole purpose of the university is to cater the study needs of the students from the Shekhawati region.

History

The university was established in the year 2012 by Rajasthan Legislative Assembly by passing the The Shekhawati University, Sikar Bill, 2012. The jurisdiction of university is Shekhawati region which comprises Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu districts of the Rajasthan state.


Campus

The University allotted 30 acres of land near to the village Katrathal on state highway 8 to construct its campus. Presently the campus is under construction and the university is functioning in a temporary campus in Sikar city.


Courses

University is planning to start postgraduation courses in the faculty of social sciences from the start of academic session 2014-2015 to cater the needs of students in Sikar and nearby districts

Engineering Programmes

The University offers engineering programmes in the fields of Petroleum, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Computer, and Information & Communication Technologyat UG/PG level besides exclusive M. Tech. programmes in Solar, Nuclear engineering, and Environmental Engg.. All theseprogrammes are based on integrated approach of relevant basic sciences and engineering and industry operations and emphasis in the application of this knowledge base. Research studies leading to Ph. D. degree are also offered in various fields of Science & Technology.

The students of engineering programsare availed all state of art facilities for research that can address big challenges of Industry. The University has adopted an educational philosophy to increase basic research, discovery of whichresearch will translate into meaningful applications to benefit the society as a whole. The University is gearing up for offering Consultancy services through its world class laboratories and quality faculty members through its engineering programmes. With the establishment of Siemens Centre of Excellence in Automotive, Solar Research & Development Centre, Research centre in Bio fuel & Bio Gas, Centre for Geo Thermal Energy, Innovation & Incubation Centre the students of engineering have got a big impetus to enhance and update their knowledge, skills and professional competence.

 Management Programmes
MBA Programme

MBA programme is a two-year full-time residential programme at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) under the School of Petroleum Management (SPM) .

Each year is divided in three trimesters. The programme also includes six to eight weeks of compulsory summer training for the students. The first year courses of the MBA Programme lay foundation of management with courses like accountancy, finance, marketing, economics, quantitative management, business research methods, organizational behavior, operations management, HRM, etc. Besides, a few foundation courses as well as group projects are offered related to the Energy & Infrastructure Sector to the students in the first year of the MBA Programme with an objective to sensitize the students about the Energy & Infrastructure Sector.

Following specializations are offered during the second year of the MBA programme:
– Energy and Infrastructure
– Finance
– Marketing
– Operations Management
– Human Resources Management

The Energy & Infrastructure specialization allows students to undergo energy & infrastructure management related compulsory as well as elective courses. Similarly, the functional area specialization in Finance, Marketing, Operations Management and HRM allows students to undergo respective functional area compulsory as well as elective courses. The students can opt for a major and a minor specialization from the above FIVE options in the beginning of second year of the MBA Programme.

Liberal Studies


BA / BBA (Hons.)
During the initial years of undergraduate program, the students get exposure to around 30 subjects ranging from Communication Skills, Basic Science, Social Sciences, Management, Humanities and Performing Arts. The last years of the program focus on the major and minor subjects of the students’ choice.

interdisciplinary nature of the course equips students with a skill set that enables them to explore multiple career options. Besides the UGC recognized degrees awarded (based on the selection of major areas of study), the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University will also award a Diploma in Liberal Arts.

B.Com.(Hons.) 
As the global market is becoming volatile and more demanding every day, career opportunities are also expanding and are becoming more demanding. Mere discipline focused knowledge is not enough; one is required to develop holistic understanding of the world through interdisciplinary pursuit and industry-academia interface. In the era of globalization, any endeavor in commerce or business would surely be impacted by international influences. Economy of a country, Financial issues, Trade Policies, Culture, Demography and Geography of the country influence commercial activities. MA – Master of arts
PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION
Relevance of Public Administration has grown immensely since the inception of human civilization, its role has increased and changed from doer/provider to regulator of services in the present times. With the present and future perspective on demand-driven administrative processes in sight, a two – year master’s degree programme in Public Administration (With specialization in Public Policy and Governance) is being offered by the School of Liberal Studies, PDPU.

POLITICAL SCIENCE-INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
A two-year master’s degree programme in Politics and International Relations gives importance to International Relations while imparting knowledge on vital aspects of Political Science. The papers are prepared in a manner to cope with the fast changing developments at the global scenario, generate orientations in politics and explore new horizons in the field of international relations.

ENGLISH
A two – year master’s degree programme in English literature, designed as per the model course curriculum of UGC prepared to challenge the creativity and imagination of students. The programme opens up an entire panorama of visual arts, theatre arts, science, psycho- analysis, philosophy and films with reference to English literature.

CATEGORIES OF PH.D. STUDENTS:
The University admits students for Ph. D. programme under the following categories:

REGULAR (FULL-TIME): 
This category refers to the candidates who work full time for their Ph.D. and may receive fellowship/assistantship from the University as per its policy or fellowship from CSIR/UGC or any other recognized funding agency or may be self financed.

SPONSORED STUDENTS (FULL-TIME):
A candidate in the category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, national institute, academic institution, govt. organization or industry for doing research in PDPU on a full time basis. He is required to have at least two years of working experience in the respective field. He will not receive any financial support from the University. Sponsorship letter (Form-I) should be attached with the application.

PROJECT STAFF (PART-TIME):
This category refers to the candidates who are working on sponsored projects in any School of the University and admitted to the Ph.D. programme. The duration of the project at the time of admission should be at least 2 years.

LOCALLY & PROFESSIONALLY EMPLOYED PERSONNEL (PART-TIME):
This category refers to the candidates who are locally and professionally employed personnel. These candidates should be able to meet supervisor(s) regularly in the University for the guidance on their research work. The applicant must be a regular employee of a recognized R&D organization, national institute, academic institution, government organization or industry at the  time of admission and be engaged in professional work in the discipline in which admission is sought. No financial assistance will be provided by the University to such students. “No Objection” Certificate from the Head of the Institute/Organization in which he   is employed (Form-II) must be enclosed at the time of application.

SPONSORED STUDENTS (EXTERNAL REGISTRATION)(PART TIME):
This category refers to candidates employed in R&D organizations related to Science, Technology, & Engineering having adequate research facilities. The research work leading to the Ph.D. degree may be carried out largely in the parent organization of the candidate under a Local Supervisor from the organization but with the overall guidance and advice provided by a faculty member of the University (School Supervisor) under whom he is registered. The appointment of the Local Supervisor is to be reported to the Director General of the University through the Director of the concerned School of the University for final approval. Sponsorship certificate from the Head of the organization where the candidate is employed. (Form III) is required to be enclosed at the time  of application. No financial assistance from the University will be provided to such students.

UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES (PART-TIME):
Full time employees (Regular/Contractual) of the University may be  sponsored as part-time students by the Director General, on recommendation of the School-Director & the Dean of the concerned Faculty.

School of Petroleum Management

To cater to the managerial manpower requirements of the Energy and Infrastructure Sector, the Management School was first established as the Institute of Petroleum Management, Gandhinagar (IPMG) in 2006 by GERMI (Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute), a trust and a society formed by GSPC (Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation), a Government of Gujarat undertaking. Subsequently in 2007, when Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) was established by GERMI, IPMG became the constituent of PDPU and changed its name to School of Petroleum Management (SPM).

School of Liberal Studies

PDPU has launched School of Liberal Studies which currently offers a Bachelor degree that equips a student to develop an array of intellectual skills, a variety of methodologies and ways of understanding our changing world, and a broad base of varied knowledge. In turn, such a Liberal Education establishes an invaluable foundation for more specialized study in one’s major or in one of the professions, and for a life-long affinity for learning and continuing intellectual development.

Infrastructure

Library
Library is basically a collection of sources, resources and services. Library and Information Centre here extensively utilizes Information Technology so that best source and information can reach to the user. The library has been automated using Alice for Windows (AfW) – an international user friendly library package. The software facilitates automated circulation (issue-return) of books and speedy access to bibliographic, location and availability information of the books in the library.

There are 5520 books, 44 journals, 141 CD’s all kinds of newspaper.

Laboratory
Empirical experiences are pre-requisites for scientific and engineering education. The University has created a number of sector relevant
engineering laboratories which are well equipped to facilitate the pedagogic and research process.

Lecture Hall
Air-conditioned lecture halls of the university give the comfortable ambience to the students to learn and develop more. All the Lecture Halls are equipped with Projectors and PC. They have comfortable seating of rotatable chairs. There are around 10 Lecture halls for School of Liberal studies.

Cafeteria & Food Court
The University has ensured that the students enjoy a healthy food diet charted out by a dietitian which is wholesome and nutritious. The food court also provides refreshments throughout the day. The cafeteria is attractively laid out and offers students an eco-friendly environment to relax while deliberating on their academic challenges.

Performing Arts Room
This room is particularly built to keep the Culture alive in SLS. Students prepare and practice for their Dance, Music, Drama etc competition and SLS cultural activities in this room. Theatre, Music and Dance class is also conducted here. It has mirror on one wall and empty space to practice.

Language Lab
To enable students to comprehend and use languages efficiently, PDPU has set up multi-media Language Laboratory (Language Lab) set in 2110 sq. feet spacious room, the Language Lab is fully furnished and airconditioned. The Language Lab at PDPU is a Computer based laboratory with flexibility to conduct laboratory sessions without computers also. The software used in the Language Lab is developed by Globarena Technologies Private Limited. The Software has default 200-hour self-learnable digital program.
