Overview

Established in 2008, National Law University, Orissa is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Cuttack (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Odisha. Officially accredited/recognized by the University Grants Commission, India, National Law University, Orissa (NLUO) is a coeducational higher education institution. National Law University, Orissa (NLUO) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. NLUO also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.

The National Law University Odisha (NLUO) is a vibrant addition to India’s national law universities. Within the short span, NLUO has made its mark as a university engaged in teaching and research in law. Faculty research output has always been of a very high standard, yielding among others several top-tier international publications. The  student community’s engagement with co-curricular activities has yielded remarkable results, including consistently high performances in moot court competitions  and active participation in prestigious national and international  conferences and seminars. The liberal yet demanding academic culture coupled with the friendly environment have ensured that students are able to harness their full potential and contribute in the area of their choice.

The University has received recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 12(b) of the UGC Act 1956, and has been receiving grants under the XIIth Plan. Its degrees offered are recognised by the Bar Council of India. It is also an associate member of the UGC-INFLIBNET, and a participant in the National Knowledge Network under the Ministry of Information Technology and Communication, Government of India.

National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack was established in 2009 by Act 4 of 2008 by the Odisha State Legislature and started imparting education in Law. NLUO is a vibrant addition to India’s national law universities. Within the short span, NLUO has made its mark as a university engaged in teaching and research in law. The University has received recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with “A” grade by NAAC.

 

The university pledges adherence to develop in the students and scholars social and scientific research skills for enhancing a sense of responsibility to serve society as committed advocates and also develop skills relating to the profession of law. The liberal yet demanding academic culture coupled with the friendly environment have ensured that students are able to harness their full potential and contribute in the area of their choice.

NLUO is housed in its own campus near Naraj, at the western extreme of Cuttack. The area is noted for its scenic beauty. The campus is spread over 50 acres, with twenty more acres scheduled to be added soon. The Naraj Reservoir is located just a ten-minute walk away, and the locality boasts several other picturesque locations.

Placement Cell at National Law University Odisha-

 

The responsibility of handling campus recruitment at National Law University Odisha (NLUO) is entrusted with the Recruitment Coordination Committee (RCC). A placement officer is appointed to work with the RCC and a faculty advisor is there to ensure the smooth running of the RCC and plays a major role in the placement activities. The RCC is a student body officially designated with the responsibility of facilitating the procedure of recruitment.

B.A. LL.B


To bridge the gap between legal theory and praxis, an understanding of the social sciences is essential. Law is after all a profession that works in a socio-political context, and therefore for a legal practitioner training in the liberal arts is a prerequisite. National Law University, Orissa offers a five year-integrated B.A.LL.B programme that combines training in law with knowledge of the social sciences. The liberal arts component of the B.A.LL.B program includes five arts subjects (Political Science, Sociology, Economics, English and Mass Communication), which are supplemented by a range of law courses; and together they provide a broad based multidisciplinary foundation to the curricula.

The National Law University, Orissa also provides a five-year B.B.A.LL.B conjoint study programme which combines law with undergraduate level business administration. In this course the law subjects are studied in conjunction with business administration subjects such as Principles and Practices of Management, Financial Markets and Institutions, Cost and Management Accounting, Marketing, Corporate Accounting, Organizational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, Managerial Psychology, Ethical Entrepreneurship and Leadership, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Financial Management, Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Restructuring. This course is designed keeping in mind the emergent needs of a fast growing economy such as India’s; the steady and growing influx of multinationals has created an overwhelming demand for legal managers and the said course is tailor-made to meet the same.

NLU-Odisha offers one-year LL.M Programme. Through this programme, we intend to provide an ideal platform for high-calibre students to acquire expertise in specialized subject areas informed by highly experienced, research-led teaching. Our innovatively designed LL.M Programme will help students to develop their abilities to think critically, analyze legal arguments, articulate ideas and research efficiently.Eligibility

The LL.M. (Master of Laws) program at NLUO is of one-year duration and is divided into two semesters.
