Founded in 2010, National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the large town of Srinagar (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Uttarakhand. Officially accredited/recognized by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, India, National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand (NIT Uttarakhand) is a coeducational higher education institution. National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand (NIT Uttarakhand) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. NIT Uttarakhand also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services

The National Institute of Technology, Srinagar, was set up in the year 1960 as the Regional Engineering College, Srinagar. It was one among the 1st 8 Regional Engineering Colleges to be set up in India during the 1st 5 Year Plan. Formerly the college for technical and engineering education had the Kashmir University affiliation. In the year 2003 the institute was upgraded as a National Institute of Technology and was also given the status of a Deemed University. The institute, popularly known as NIT-S or NIT-Srinagar was recognized as an institute of National importance on August 15, 2007.

The mission of the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar is to create top class with technical skill, good social character, leadership quality, creativity and self confidence for the growth of the country. Student life

The annual technocultural festival “Cliffesto”, previously called “PRODAYA”, is generally held in February.

Other cultural activities include Fresher’s Night (Pravartak), Institute Gathering (SPARK), and departmental gatherings

Departments also hold workshops, guest lectures, various competitions, and SAE participation.

Sports facilities include cricket, volleyball, badminton, basketball, table tennis, football, poker, kabbadi, and carrom. The Institute has purchased five set of skis and accessories, for students wishing to go to Auli for skiing in February.
Music all around

The Institute has also purchased two rafts and two kayaks for rafting in the Alaknanda River at Srinagar under certified experts’ supervision.

The institute also has a gymnasium, music club, theater workshop, photography club, quizzing and awareness club, literary society club, drama club, astronomy club, verbatim-the speakers club and robotics club.



The 2015 second batch of students from the Institute got a large fraction[quantify] of the students placed. Students got placement offers from companies including the NSE, Ramco Systems, Venera, Infosys, Mu Sigma and Nucleus Software Exports, and organisations including CodeChef and the DRDO also visited the college.5 Students (Manoratan , Shekher , Divesh , Varun and Prashant) got selected in BPCL( 2017).
