National Institute of Technology, Manipur Imphal

NIT Manipur started its first session with the three branches of Engineering-Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering. It is presently functioning in its temporary Campus at Takyelpat, Imphal. The institute has acquired 341.5 acres of land in lush green areas of Langol, Imphal.

The Institute is administered by the Director of the Institute under the direct supervision of Board of Governors(BOG) headed by The Chairman of the Board of Governors as the institute is registered under Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989. The policy for academic activity will be made through Senate with prior approval of the Board of Governors and implemented through Dean(Academic). The Planning and Development of the institute will be implemented through Dean (P & D) whereas the Students Affairs will be looked after by Dean(Student Welfare). Registrar is the custodian of all records of the institution and all administrative orders will be issued through Registrar, where he will also be responsible to the Director for proper implementation of the policy matter of the institute.

A Master Plan has already been prepared for total infrastructural development of the institute so that the institute may have the facilities of international standard.

Different development programmers have been undertaken for establishment of well equipped laboratories and library, augmentation of computer facilities. Construction of temporary Administrative and Academic building has been started at the Permanent Site.

The NIT Manipur is an autonomous Institute of National importance. From the Academic year 2013-14 two more branches in B.Tech courses are inducted viz Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. At present there is an intake of 150 students per year out of which 50% seats are reserved for the students from Manipur and the rest 50% seats are reserved for the students from the other states of India. The student have to qualify through JEE for getting admission in the institute.

NIT Manipur has gone Global with the programme Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) from 2013-14.

Vision

The Institute aims to provide the best infrastructure and amenities to the students. The institute envisions being one of the best technical institutes in South-East Asia. The Institute aims to attract students from the neighbouring South-East Asian countries in view of the Look-East Policy of the Government of India. The Institute strongly believes that the success of an Institute lies in the faculty and will leave no stone unturned to attract the best faculty available in the country.

 Mission

The Institute being accorded the status of “An Institute of National Importance” aspires to be a knowledge hub for the region. The Institute through its academic and research activities would act as incubation center for aspiring “technopreneurs”. The Institute provides an ideal platform for national integration through emotional integration as half the students are from outside the state. It envisions being an institute producing human resource of the world class standard who will contribute significantly in the well being of mankind.

The Institute has all basic infrastructural facilities for conducting undergraduate courses satisfactorily. Its got adequate number of well quality and experienced faculty member and technical supporting staff.

 Campus Facilities

The institute has both Boys’ hostel and Girls’ hostel facilities. Presently there are two Boys’ hostel and one Girl’s hostel. However, seats are limited at present. In coming year, more hostels will be available in the campus itself for which master plan has already been prepared. the process of construction of hostels for both boys and girls has been initiated.Students proposing to stay in hostel are required to fill up a form for admission. The prescribed form is available with the officials of the office of chief warden.

 Medical Facilities

A well-equipped Medical Unit with adequate Medical officer including supporting staff is available in the campus for rendering medical care to students,staff and other inmate in the campus. In case of emergency, arrangements are made for shifting the patient to the Regional Institute of Medical Science(RIMS), Imphal and JNIMS, Imphal, which are not for away from the campus.

ACADEMICS NITM :  

Following the principle that the key to excellence of any Institute lies in its bright student, the institute draws best talents from across the country through a cut-throat admission procedure which includes the Common Engineering Entrance Exam(CEEE) conducted by IITs and CBSE, effective from year 2013. The core aim of the institute is to infuse the students with diverse personalities along with a sense of co-operation which it done by encouraging the students to play a pro-active role in different affairs of institute. The curriculum facilitates a practical realization among students fraternity about importance of management & entrepreneurship in today’s shrinking world. NIT Manipur was established in 2010 by Government of India and and bestowed with the status of deemed university by Ministry of Human Resource & Development. The college started its classes in 2010 and at present offers undergraduate courses in CSE, EEE & ECE. Identified as a center of excellence by Government of India, the institute constantly keeps on innovating itself to meet the demands of industry.

The Central Library, one of the important central facilities of the Institute, currently has 10,000 volumes, including textbooks, reference books, back volumes, standards, and non-book material such as CD-ROMs.The Central Library at the NIT Manipur is privileged to support the institute’s march towards its vision – ” To develop the institute into the systematic leader and pivot for excellence in technical education sector and catalyzing absorption, innovation, diffusion and transfer of high technology for improved productivity, quality of life and improved empowerment thereby effecting regional growth.”
