Established in 1995, Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the large city of Gwalior (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Madhya Pradesh. Officially accredited/recognized by the University Grants Commission, India, Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) is a very small (enrollment range: 250-499 students) coeducational higher education institution. Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment. LNIPE also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.
Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Gwalior was established in 1957 by the Ministry of Education & Culture, Government of India. It is an autonomous body under Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and is an ISO 9001:2008 certified and NAAC Accredited University. The university of its unique recognition status and character and to facilitate its further growth, the college was conferred the status of an Autonomous College of Jiwaji University, Gwalior.
The university in further recognition of the unique educational services rendered by the institute in the field of Physical Education, Sports and Research, the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development conferred the status of a Deemed to be University. The main purpose of establishing the university was to upgrade the status of Physical Education by producing quality teachers and leaders through graduate and post-graduate courses.
The objectives of the university are to prepare highly qualified teachers and leaders in the field of physical education and sports, to encourage and produce scientific contemporary literature in the field of physical education and sports and to provide professional and academic leadership to other institutions in the field of Physical Education.

Campus and Location
Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education campus is known as Shaktinagar and is situated on Mela Road (Formerly Known as Race Course Road) at a distance of about one kilometer from Gwalior Railway Station. Gwalior is on Agra Mumbai National Highway. It is on the main North-South Rail Route and is served by regular flights from Delhi and Mumbai. The Institute campus covers an area of about 153 acres and is fully residential.
Besides residential complex, the main building, class-rooms, library, laboratories, research block, auditorium, administrative sections, play fields, gymnasium and swimming pool, men’s & women’s hostel, a students mess, health center are also housed within the campus.
