About IITE
Indian Institute of Teacher Education (IITE), established in 2010 is a brainchild of the then CM of Gujarat Shri Narendra Modi. He wanted to establish an institute which would produce world class teachers and export them. At a time when the world is facing shortage of teachers, he wanted India to lead from the front. If you send a businessman to a foreign land, he controls dollars, but if you send a teacher s/he would control the whole generation Modi used to say.
Narendra Modi is one of the few such visionaries who thought that 21st century education would not just consist of a degree but an all inclusive setup, and hence the idea of innovative, residential, integrated degrees was brought in to existence. To lend a material shape to the best educational philosophies from across the world, a team of experts led by legendary Indian academician and philosopher Shri Kireetbhai Joshi and other scholars of national and international stature came together to design the curriculum of IITE.
Our Mission
To provide integrated courses in teacher education, marked and defined by value-education, global outlook, and interdisciplinary.
Objectives
- To evolve and implement a new program of teachers’ education that would provide education and training to prospective teachers that aim at development of new integral development of teachers.
- To train prospective teachers based on globally benchmarked curriculum with ideas gleaned from the fusion of the intellectual traditions of India and the West.
- To equip teachers with the competencies requisite for dealing with the 21st century issues of the choices and challenges of students.
- To impart teacher training which enables the prospective teachers to see the obtaining world in the new light of universal human values.
- To promote the indigenous tradition of teacher-student relationship (Guru-Shishya parampara) in various fields of humanities, arts, crafts, sciences, technologies and yoga (psychological and physical education).
- To publish and disseminate results of advanced research relating to teachers’ education for purposes of advancement of capacities to teach and learn among professional teachers as also among parents, social educators and social workers.
- To promote national and international cooperation in teachers’ education as also in the development of teaching-learning material through online programs, documentaries, musical and dramatic programs and films.
- To undertake, conduct and promote any program that will enhance the highest aims of pedagogy and synthesis of knowledge-systems and internationalism.
- To foster in the University highest purposes of education of the body, life and mind as also of the human spirit in its integrity.
- To introduce and nurture innovations in the education system so as to reflect India’s spiritual knowledge, robust intellectuality and inexhaustible creativity.
The Indian Institute of Teacher Education is one of the deemed and prominent universities which is located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. This university is set up with the mission to offer the integrated courses in the teacher education and to nurture the teachers of tomorrow. The university focuses on the integral development of the teacher who has the responsibility to shape the future of the nation. IITE or Indian Institute of Teacher Education offers several undergraduate, master and doctoral courses in the field of teacher education.

This course is structured to cater the need of Senior Primary and Secondary Schools where the subjects are general in nature and students have to learn basic and fundamental concepts in the fields of Maths, Science, Languages and Social Sciences. So the core element of the course is based on primary concerns of teacher education and subjects within.
B.Sc. B.Ed. (4 year integrated course) is offered in two different combinations, PCB and PCM. PCB means Physics, Chemistry and Biology for (AB and B group of Science stream at 12th level) whereas PCM means Physics, Chemistry and Maths for (AB and A group of Science stream at 12th level). It means candidate who has passed 12th Science examination in AB and B Group can opt for PCB, whereas AB and A Group can opt for PCM.
As a part of programme students are offered skill courses to enhance their teaching skills.

All processes of teacher recruitment, training, motivation, incentives, retention and feedback therefore have to be planned on a large scale. Further the ultimate goal of teacher development should be to ensure that optimal learning takes place in the classrooms. With this noble objective we have launched Master of Arts in Education programme.

The Central Library of IITE has been developed to support the main objective of the institute to become a world class institution to nurture teacher of tomorrow. The library has the collection of books on Education, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Humanities & Social Sciences. The collection includes reference books, Journals, periodicals, encyclopedias, Dictionaries, text books, CDs etc. Students are constantly in a need of best collection of books and research journals in electronic as well as printed formats, for the purpose, accessibility subscribed with INFLIBNET to e-resources; for E-journals, with various reputed online scientific databases which can be accessed for the further study and projects.
The library has been well – equipped with comfortable furniture and amenities like. The books which has been classified and displayed clearly with well lit. The library has been provided with Internet and photocopying facilities throughout the working hours both to the students and the faculty equipped with computers, educational CD’s & e-books which may be used by students & teachers.

Hostel Accommodation:
With the vision to prepare excellent and sincere teachers with impeccable character, IITE offers residential four year integrated B. A., B. Ed and B. Sc., B. Ed. Programme. Since this is the compulsory residential course IITE provides hostel accommodation facility on twin sharing basses.
