About the University
The journey of Centurion began in 2005 by a group of ambitious professionals having aspirations to take it to the pinnacle of quality education, nationally and internationally. The first foray in this respect was the takeover of a failing engineering college in Parlakhemundi, Gajapati: the Jagannath Institute for Technology and Management (JITM). Gajapati is the poorest district of Odisha State, and appears in the Prime Minister’s “100 poorest districts” and “31 most extremist affected districts” list. Since then, committed efforts have been made to bring about a difference to this area; both academically and socio-economically.
Today, the Centurion University has five campuses at Paralakhemundi, Bhubaneswar, Bolangir, Rayagada, and Chatrapur offering B. Tech., MBA, +2 Science, ITI, Primary and Secondary Education in addition to Skill and Vocational Training and Social Entrepreneurship initiatives. It has over 7000 regular students. It also trains about twenty thousand students a year in skills and employs them all over India.
The university headquarters is located at Paralakhemundi, Odisha with its constituent campuses at Jatni, Rayagada and Bolangir. While the campuses at Paralakhemundi and Jatni run undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Engineering, Technology and Management, the campuses at Rayagada and Bolangir offer postgraduate programmes in Basic and Applied sciences. Further, in the campus at Paralakhemundi, undergraduate programmes in Agriculture Science& Engineering are also offered. In addition to the above mentioned programmes, the University also conducts research programmes leading to Ph.D.The School of vocational education and training named as Gram Tarang, is the action learning lab for all the other schools and departments. How innovative and enterprising M.S.-Mobile Application program is?
India produces over a million engineering graduates annually but only 17.45% are employable by the industry. (Source: National Employability Report) Absence of relevant, current curriculum and training in sync with industry needs is a significant reason for this. In specialized and growing areas such as mobile technologies, there is a significant skill-set gap for which IT companies today resort to in-house training programs. The average cost of creating and delivering in-house training is around ~ Rs. 1.5-2L per person. IT sector traditionally relies on in-house training for campus recruits. Typical training period ranges between 3 and 6 months. There is clearly a need for engineers with Mobile IT Skills courses that deliver the equivalent of industry in-house training for Mobile Application development having a concrete value proposition. Mobile Application is considered one of the top 3 must have IT competencies today.
