Banda University of Agriculture and Technology Banda

OVERVIEW

Founded in 2010, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the large town of Banda (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Uttar Pradesh. Officially accredited/recognized by the University Grants Commission, India, Banda University of Agriculture and Technology (BUAT) is a coeducational higher education institution. Banda University of Agriculture and Technology (BUAT) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. BUAT also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services.

Academics

Academic Developments :

Banda University of Agriculture & Technology, Banda was established on 2nd March 2010 for the development of the agriculture and allied sectors in seven districts i.e., Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Lalitpur, and Jalaun in two Divisions i.e., Jhansi and Chitrakoot Dham in the Bundelkhand Region.

First Academic Session of the University commenced from 1st September 2011 with Colleges of Agriculture and Horticulture. A total of 11 colleges have been proposed in the University as listed below:

College Buildings

University Campus

The University Campus is still in the development phase. College buildings and several other infrastructures are being developed. In the first phase, the construction of following six colleges was started in June 2010:

Out of six colleges, the UG degree programmes were started in College of Agriculture (COA) and Horticulture (COH) in September 2011. About 600 acres out of an area of 948 acres is to be developed as Research Farm at the University Campus.

College of Agriculture Bhawan

The construction of College of Agriculture (COA) building, with a cost of more than Rs. 64 crores, has been completed. This imposing building comprises of following facilities:

  • Dean’s Chamber, Main Office for employees, Visitors’ Room and spacious Committee Room.
  • Counselling Hall along with offices/rooms for faculty-wise Fee Collection Counters.
  • Lecture Rooms (4) each with a sitting capacity of 80 students.
  • Lecture/Instruction Rooms (18) each with a sitting capacity of 35 students.
  • Teaching Laboratories (13).
  • PG Teaching/ Research Laboratories (25).
  • HOD Chambers (11) Steno Room, Departmental Office, Pantry room and Store for each department.
  • Individual Faculty Rooms (64).
  • Departmental Staff Meeting Rooms (11).
  • Large Halls (2) with a capacity of 250 students.
  • Rooms for Research Fellows and Technicians (14).
  • Computer Labs (2).
  • Canteen (1).
  • Large Garages for tractors and farm machinery (2).
Lecture Rooms and Teaching Laboratories

Student Lecture rooms, Instruction rooms and Teaching laboratories in COA building have already been furnished, and students are being imparted education both in theory and practical classes. The laboratories are being equipped with instruments required for effective teaching and conduct of basic and applied research in different disciplines.

Computer Laboratory

A computer Laboratory has been made operational in the COA building and a teacher has been engaged to educate and train the students in ‘Computer Applications’. Internet connectivity has also been provided for e-communication and access to worldwide knowledge.

Examination Hall

A spacious Examination Hall with a capacity of 300 students has been established in a Large Hall on the second floor of the COA building. The mid-term and final examinations of students are conducted in this Examination Hall. Periodical meetings with the students and faculty are also held in this Hall.

Multi-disciplinary Students Education Farm and Farm Machinery

A Multi-disciplinary Students Education Farm over an area around 24000 m2 for field training of students in growing of field crops, vegetables, flowers, fruits, etc. and doing other field operations by the students has been developed with the cost of 16.45 lacs, on the backside of COA Building. Some of the research activities for the students of postgraduate and Doctoral level could also be conducted here.
The University has purchased a 60-H.P. Tractor along with several implements and gadgets for various field operations.

Establishment of Cafeteria

A modern Cafeteria has been established in a large Hall with a capacity of 300 on the ground floor of the COA building. Sanitation and food quality is regularly monitored by the ‘Food Committee’ constituted for this purpose. The University faculty, staff, students and visitors enjoy snacks, drinks, and meals in this Cafeteria.
Health Clinic

A Small four-bed Health Clinic has been established in the College of Agriculture building, for providing health services to students, employees and officers of the University under the supervision of a part time Medical Officer.

Opening of Punjab National Bank

As the University is situated 7 km outside the Banda City, a full-fledged branch of Punjab National Bank was opened on the University Campus on 28th March 2012 to meet the daily banking needs of the University administration, employees and students.

Telephone Exchange

Telephone Exchange is in operation on the ground floor of COA building since December 2012, to provide landline telephone, fax and internet connectivity. Telephone Exchange will be shifted to the completion of Convenience Centre, once facility becomes functional.

College of Horticulture Bhawan

The construction of College of Horticulture (COH) building with a cost of more than Rs. 53 Crores is almost complete. This building has following facilities:
  • A Dean’s Chamber, PA Steno Room, Main Office for employees, Visitors’ Room, Pantry Room and spacious Committee Room.
  • A Counselling Hall along with Account office, Establishment office and Staff Room.
  • Lecture Halls (4) each with a sitting capacity of 80 students.
  • Instruction Rooms (14) each with a sitting capacity of 35 students.
  • Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories (8).
  • Post Graduate Lab/ Research Laboratories (18).
  • HOD Chambers (8) with attached WC & retiring room, Steno Room, Departmental Office, Pantry room and stores for each department.
  • Individual Faculty Chambers (25).
  • Multipurpose Large Hall with a capacity of 250 students (1).
  • Conference Hall (1).
  • Visitors Room (1).
  • Rooms for Lab Technician, Lab Assistant and other staff (16).
  • Store Room (30).
  • Canteen (1).

College of Forestry Bhawan

The construction of College of Forestry (COF) building, with a cost of more than Rs 40 crores, is near completion. This building has following facilities:

  • A Dean’s Chamber with attached WC, PA & Steno Room, Main Office for employees, Visitors’ Room, Pantry Room and spacious Committee Room.
  • A Counselling Hall along with Account office.
  • UG Lecture Hall (4).
  • Instruction Rooms (8) each with a sitting capacity of 35 students.

The construction of College of Home Science (COHS) building, with a cost of more than Rs. 40 crores, is near completion. This building has following facilities:

  • A Counselling Hall along with Account office.
  • UG Lecture Hall (4) each with a sitting capacity of 80 students

The College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (COAE&T) building, with a cost of more than Rs 49 crores is under construction. It will have following facilities:

  • A Counselling Hall along with Account office and Establishment office.
  • Class Rooms (12) and Tutorials (8).
  • Departmental Library (4).
  • Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories (27).
  • Individual Faculty Rooms (56).
  • Supporting Staff Rooms (14).
  • Drawing Hall (3) and Multipurpose Hall (2).

College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry Bhawan

The College of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry (COVSc& AH) building, with a cost of more than Rs 61 crores, is under construction. This building has following facilities:

  • Dean’s Chamber with attached WC, PA & Steno Room, Main Office for employees, Visitors’ Room, Pantry Room and spacious Committee Room.
  • Counselling Hall along with offices/rooms for faculty-wise Fee Collection Counters.

  • Dissection Hall (1) and Anaesthesia Room (1).

However, in order to make this College functional, the construction of animal hospital/clinic, dairy farm, instructional livestock farm complex etc. are required. The proposal for the same has already been submitted to the U.P. Govt. for its sanction and financial approval.
