OVERVIEW
Established in 1964, Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the metropolis of Hyderabad (population range of over 5,000,000 inhabitants), Andhra Pradesh. Officially accredited/recognized by the University Grants Commission, India, Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) is a small (enrollment range: 3,000-3,999 students) coeducational higher education institution. Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment. ANGRAU also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, sport facilities and/or activities, as well as administrative services.
History
The university was established on 12 June 1964, with O. Pulla Reddy as the first vice-chancellor. It was formally inaugurated on 20 March 1965, by Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Prime Minister of India in Hyderabad. On 23 June 1966, another milestone was the inauguration of the building program of the university by Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India. Post bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, the headquarters of Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University was shifted from Hyderabad to Guntur.
According to the Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University Act, 1963, Colleges of Agriculture and Veterinary Science, Hyderabad (affiliated to Osmania University), Agricultural College, Bapatla (affiliated to Andhra University), Sri Venkateswara Agricultural College and Andhra Veterinary College, Tirupati (affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University) were transferred to the new university in June 1964. About 41 agricultural research stations and four research stations were transferred to the university in July 1966 and May 1967, respectively.

Education:
Train human resource needed for agricultural, home Science and allied sectors for the development of the State of Andhra Pradesh.
Research:
Constantly strive to generate technologies for increasing production in the agriculture and home science and allied sectors.
Extension:
Assist in the process of transfer of technology through the dissemination of knowledge in collaboration with the Development Departments of the Government.
Institution’s Mission and Goals
In tune with the mandate of the university which “among others shall be to make provision for education mainly of the rural people of the state of Andhra Pradesh in agriculture in its broad sense and to promote research, field and extension programmes in agriculture and agricultural production”, the university has set for itself the following goals.
Provide opportunities for the citizens of the state and the country for education in the field of agriculture in its broad sense and to promote research, field and extension programmes in agriculture and allied sciences. Strengthen UG and PG teaching through periodic revision of syllabi.
Establish the required infrastructure to conduct location specific research in the field of agriculture and allied sciences.
Generate technologies to improve farm production and income to farmers.
Provide the needed assistance to the development departments of the Government and other agencies to test and disseminate the improved technologies developed.
Provide opportunities for rural youth and women for learning and adoption of improved agro-technologies.
Revitalize the extension activities through the creation of specific infrastructure in each district.
Adopt advancements in information technology and computers to improve the formal academic programmes and introduce non-formal distance and contact learning programmes for the benefit of farmers, rural youth and women.
