Overview
Established in 2010, National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh is a non-profit public higher education institution located in Yupia, Arunachal Pradesh. Officially accredited/recognized by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, India, National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh (NITAP) is a coeducational higher education institution. National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh (NITAP) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. NITAP also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students including a library, as well as administrative services
Establishment of NIT, AP
The National Institute of Technology, Arunachal Pradesh was inaugurated on 18th August, 2010 as a member of a group of ten new NITs. These new NITs were established as centres of excellence in technical education to combat the growing need of technological professionals in India. NIT Arunachal Pradesh started functioning under the mentorship of NIT Durgapur till, when the first permanent Director Prof. (Dr.) Chandan Tilak Bhunia assumed the charge on 1st November, 2011.
Initialy the NIT AP started functioning in a hired building at Yupia, district Papumpare as its temprorary site. Its permanent site is under construction at Jote, district Papumpare, surrounded by beautiful green forest and mountains. The area is picturesque and surrounding makes it ideal for a nobel academic environment.
About the Campus
Temporary Campus
The NIT AP is temporarily housed in a high school building in Yupia hired from the state government of Arunachal Pradesh. Yupia is around 18 km from Itanagar, the capital of Arunchal Pradesh, and is about 11 km from Naharlagun, which is the twin capital town. The place has healthy climate with moderate temperature ranging from 13°C to 27°C with an annual mean rainfall of 365 mm.

Rail Link: The nearest railway station is Naharlagun, which is around 3 km from the present campus at Yupia. The another nearest railway station is at Guwahati. The journey from Guwahati to Naharlagun takes about 10 hours. Taxi for Yupia and share Auto service are also available at Naharlagun City or Naharlagun Railway Station.
Infrastructure
The Solar Plant
The institute has installed a solar plant of capacity 100 kW in the year 2013 in NIT temporary campus at Yupia, from which the institute is supplied with uninterrupted power supply and has minimized electricity bill to a large extent.

The Institute being an Institute of National Importance is fully residential in character. There are eight halls of residence for students in total, six for boys and two for girls. Bus facility is provided to the students for to and fro journey between institute and hostels. Internet facility is also provided to all the students in the Institute and hostels with wi-fi connectivity. The hostel are taken care of by the team of wardens, student’s representative under the overall control of Hostel Provost and Dean, Student Affairs. A team of faculty members pay regular visits to the hostels for improvement and to observe anti ragging measures making the institute a zero ragging.
Class Room
Classes are going on in required modern state-of-art classrooms with LCD projectors, smart rooms, video conferencing facilities, digital podium both in temporary and permanent campus.
Seminar Hall
The Institute is having a modern Seminar Hall. Workshops of all streams are organized, providing the students an interface for practical and expertise knowledge. Apart from this, motivational and inspirational lectures of Director are held to flourish every student’s innovative ideas by discussing them.

Facilities
NIT Arunachal is a fully residential campus. There are five hostels for boys, namely Deer Hall of Residence, Mithun Hall of Residence, Lagoon Hall of Residence, Pragati Hall of Residence, and Tiger Hall of Residence and three hostels for girls, namely Rose Hall of Residence, Hornbill Hall of Residence and Peacock Hall of Residence.The mess is run privately. Each hostel is under the care of a warden.
Sufficient number of buses have been provided by the institute and the State Gov’t for the students to travel from their hostels to the Institute.
Admissions
Students are taken in for the undergraduate courses through the Joint Entrance Examination(JEE) conducted by CBSE, New Delhi. More than one million students write this test every year to gain admission into one of the 31 NITs. Admission to some other autonomous national level technical institutes (called Deemed University) is also through JEE undergraduate programs.
The institute awards B.Tech. degrees in engineering. Admission to the programs is through a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). NIT-AP follows the reservation policy declared by the Supreme Court of India, by which 27% of seats are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 15% for Scheduled Castes (SCs), and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (STs). The institute accepts foreign nationals through scholarships awarded by the government of India, and non-resident Indians through an independent scheme known as Direct Admission for Students Abroad (DASA).[9][10]
The B.Tech. program is a four-year program while the B.Arch. program is five years long. The first year of the B.Tech. program is common across all disciplines, during which students take basic courses in engineering, mathematics and professional communication.[11]
Cultural events
The first cultural festival ATULYAM was held on 3-4 October 2013. ATULYAM is an inter-college annual cultural festival of NIT Arunachal Pradesh. There are 23 events in eight categories including theatrics, creat_ev_villaze, Viking zone, rhythm on the floor, literature, sports and Mr. & Ms. Atulyam.
Technical Festival ADDOVEDI
Addovedi is the annual intercollege technical festival organized by the students of NIT Arunachal Pradesh.[6] It is the first dedicated technical festival organized by a university in Arunachal Pradesh. The third edition of the festival was organized from the 30th to the 1st of November 2015.
Social activity ROSHNI
Roshni is a social activity for the deprived people of the Arunachal Pradesh. It helps the people of Arunachal Pradesh with social activities, especially in education development and awareness. It is run by the students.

Dept.of EEE has taken an initiative by publishing the first ever magazine of NIT Arunachal Pradesh
Administration
Under the constitution of the National Institutes of Technology Act 2007, the President of India is the Visitor to the Institute. The authorities of the institute are Board of Governors and the Senate. The Board is headed by the Chairman, who is appointed by the Visitor. The Director, who is the secretary of the Board, looks after the day-to-day running of the institute. The Board of Governors has nominees of the Central Government, the State Government, the NIT Council and the Institute Senate.
