Philosophy is a comprehensive system of ideas about human nature and the nature of the reality we live in. Master of Philosophy is a Postgraduate Academic Research Degree which is awarded for a course or program in Philosophy. It is popularly known as M.Phil. which is an abbreviated form of Master of Philosophy degree? The duration of Master of Philosophy degree is 1-2 years involving a number of semesters. The syllabus of Master of Philosophy is a mixture of theory and practical. Scholars are trained to present their research findings. A pre-doctoral programme – Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) is taken after completion of the Master’s Degree. This can either be completely research based or can include course work as well. Masters Degree in Philosophy is offered by various Indian Universities in a wide variety of subjects ranging from English, Mathematics, Physics to Management. Eligibility:
The basic eligibility for M.Phil is to have a master’s degree in the subject chosen for M.Phil with the minimum marks of 55% in the respective subject. Entrance Exams are held all over India by various institutions and universities for the admission in the course. NET, SET and other equivalent national level exams help wavier the entrance test scores in some of the universities. Distance Education can also be chosen by the candidates who are not willing to attend the regular/full time course. After the candidate clears the entrance exam, he/she has to go through a personal interview.
