The National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) is the apex institute for training and research in Ayurveda in India, established in 1976 at Jaipur, by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The institute is one eight apex national institutes established across nation, for training and research in “Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy education”, by Department of AYUSH, Government of India, and only central institute of Ayurveda, under AYUSH.
The institute has its origins in the Government Ayurvedic College, Jaipur established by Government of Rajasthan in 1946, which was merged in 1976 to form the present institute. It is now affiliated with Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur, formerly known as Rajasthan Ayurved University. It is also one of the only two post graduate institutes under Union government, with other one being, the Institute of Post Graduate Training and Research in Ayurveda, Jamnagar.
The institution is situated in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The institution has a globally marked infrastructure that is beautifully designed with the administrative and student blocks. The campus offers a perfect ambience to the students, which facilitate them in their studies.
Various necessary facilities are provided by the institution such as the institution has a well-stocked audio-video library with gathering of books, national /international journals and magazines. The institution has a well-facilitated computer centre. The institution has air-conditioned and spacious classrooms which provide the most favorable atmosphere for active focused discussions. The institution provides separate residential facilities for boys and girls. There is also a canteen, common room and outdoor and indoor sports facilities.

National Institute of Ayurved offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the medical field. The institution offers undergraduate course in Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and postgraduate course in MD Ayurveda. The duration of the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) course is four and a half years with the compulsory rotational internship training of one year while the duration of the MD Ayurveda is three years.
